Is this possible? I have been running at least 5/mi 5 or 6 days a week for the past couple months. No weights. Am I imagining that my upper arms are looking better or is this most likely wishful thinking?

Yes....definitly possible. Running will help reduce overall body fat.

Doing arm exercises will probably have very little effect on arm fat. How your body prioritizes fat storage and depletion is pre-programmed and localized exercise doesn't do much. In other words, it is totally conceiveable that running without weight training makes your arms look better.
when weight goes it will go across the board.
checked your profile. its blank. dont know much if you are older like me, if so weight cant be lost be mere exercise. a rigorous diet with modest excercise is the best way--- bek of my age i had to do extreme dieting kaiser semi fast. brutal ruthless but effective. consult doctor like i did.
my weight is good now.
If you dont like weights you might like toning bands. I get really fast results with those as far as sucking in everything as tight as it can be without adding bulk. Good luck with your running!
I ran all last summer and I was happy with my weight but I really wished that I had worked my arms more when summer came. I'm not making the same mistake this year...I'm lifting weights now (P90X) and I'm going to continue w/ the weights when I start running in the spring.
It is possible that your arms to getting smaller from running but if they REALLY are, it could be due to your diet.
Everyone knows that you cannot spot reduce but you CAN spot tone. If you were to start lifting weights you'll see a noticeable difference in the overall shape and size of your arms.
Your body will release fat from some areas before others! I lose in my bust, then thighs, then butt---I have alot of trouble losing enough to get rid of the "muffin top", without looking emaciated everywhere else!

Assuming you've been eating healthy, if you've been running that much, then you've probably lost a significant amount of fat. While you can't control where body fat is lost, chances are you have lost fat in your arms in which case what you're seeing isn't just your imagination. However, I would encourage you to add weight training to your regimen for several reasons. First, it will protect against muscle loss. Second, it'll give more shape to your arm. Losing fat is fine, but muscle is what makes the arm look good. Without it, you'll just have loose skin and bone. And third, weight training will strengthen your bones. Running is high impact and so it's pretty hard on your body. All the more reason to have strong bones and healthy joints.
