Considering getting either an eliptical machine or treadmill. Have arthritis and lots of hardware in feet & ankles plus need to be easy on the knees. Which machine would be best? (thinking eliptical).

Do you intend to walk or to run on the treadmill? If you intend to run, don't get a treadmill - get the elliptical machine or, as wankel7 has suggeted, a bike.

Eliptical is my choice. My knees and ankles are a mess and the treadmill kills me. The eliptical is great.

Neither

Both put pressure on ankles, feet and knees.

Bikes can too, when not done properly.

I am the exact opposite of you the eliptical kills me but the treadmill works well. My hubby would agree with those who say bike, he has had acl replacements on both knees and both the treadmill and eliptical kill him so he does the bike. He does alot more on the bike then I do on the treadmill in the same amount of time.

Pilates Reformer or something similar and then you will still get a nice workout without pressure on your feet and ankles.
