NORMAN, Okla., Feb. 3 (UPI) -- A weight-loss supplement tested by the University of Oklahoma has the potential to burn as many calories as a 20-minute walk.
Joel T. Cramer, assistant professor of exercise physiology, says General Nutrition Centers contracted with the University of Oklahoma to test the weight-loss benefits of the supplement called the tri-pepper blend, which contains black pepper, caffeine and a concentrated form of capsaicin -- the ingredient that makes red peppers hot.
They'll make a killing if they can get this approved to sell to the public.
Many Americans would rather take a pill than spend 20-30 minutes in the gym.
Nothing replaces exercise, exercise does much more than just burn calories. I would take this in addition to exercising if you're trying to lose weight and I wager GNC says the same thing.
No pills for me I like the endorphine rush to much, plus its just probably another scam.
Yeah, the endorphin rush and also just the good, envigored feeling and sense of self-confidence and pride that comes with exercise cannot be replaced, especially with a pill. Besides, the calorie-burning effect of the pill is minimal. How many calories one burns while walking, is, of course, dependent upon their weight and fitness level, but generally speaking, a 170-lb man or woman in average condition will only burn about 100 calories during a 20-minute walk. And the fact is that there are so many easy, alternative ways to cut-out that many calories in a day, wihtout resorting to taking a pill. Heck, you could knock-off that many cals by getting a plain coffee instead of a grande mocha at StarBucks. Or by drinking a diet soda intead of a sugarized one.
Americans sorely need to get away from the mindset of looking to pills and "magic bullets" for their weight-loss goals. Just eat better and exercise a bit more!! It ain't rocket surgery.
