I'm looking for a good-quality mat to put up in our exercise room. Maybe a 4x6 or something around that - not huge. Our new mats at the gym are awesome, and made by Crown Mats. I googled them, but apparently the ones at the gym are custom, as all they offer at their site is folding mats. And that is fine, if they are of the same quality. I want a good DENSE mat...not those squishy cheap things in the stores. I guess I could call them...and I probably will. But as there are so many offerings online, I thought I'd ask here.

Anyone bought one lately that they liked?

Horse stall mats. If you have a horse feed store anywhere near you check them out. Much better quality than what you'd find in a store and much cheaper as well.

Checked them out, but those are more for gym flooring. I'm looking for actual mats...the thick 1 or 2 inches kind that are used for floorwork. There needs to be some padding there. Any other recommendations?

There are sets of mats that are sold several to a package and they fit together like puzzle pieces to be customized for your area. The pieces are about 2 sq ft and 1-2 in. thick. They can be found in most sporting good stores or departments. You can do a small area or a whole room.

Yes I've seen those and they are similar to the horse stall mats that Lao mentioned. Those are hard; they would be great for padding an entire floor, but I'm not looking for a floor covering...I'm looking for an exercise mat...one that provides a good padded (but not hard), surface for doing exercises on the floor.

I finally just called the Crown Gym Mat company. They actually looked up my gym, and confirmed for me the style mat. So now I know exactly what to order.
