Depends on what your goals are and your physical activity level. Strength training? Weight loss? Muscle building? Want performance increases? Want it for internal health? Bone/muscle health? Do you run? Jog? Do high intensity sports like MMA/cardio boxing/martia arts/cycling?

Honestly all supplements are crap except one and that one being creatine. It has some evidence showing slight improvement for hard core weight lifters...to anyone else it will just retain water. I also advise eating real protein sources instead of a powder unless you want kidney stones or enjoy drinking 12 full glasses of water a day.

Talk about a loaded question. Like Lao said, it'll depend on your goals, but here is a general list.

- Proteins (mainly whey)
- Creatines
- Glutamine
- L-Carnitine
- Nitric Oxide

Good brands...

EAS
Optimum Nutrition
BSN
MetRX
Universal Nutrition

Brands to avoid...

MuscleTech
Just about any of the GNC brands

Obviously there are more that belong on these lists, but it's good starting point for you.
