When I walk, it's usually two miles in 32 minutes - so 16 minutes per mile for me!

It may be slow but what’s the difference? As long as your doing it and the more you do it the better you will do and your endurance will definitely increase. The goal is to keep at and don’t focus on the negative, at least you are there and doing something not sitting around on the couch!

Either your going way too slow, or your counting elliptical and weights way too high...

I had a nice slow run Saturday morning and burned 800 KCal in 45 minutes.
According to Harvard Medical, a general weight lifting routine burns 266 KCal/hr. Even bros on bodybuilding say 350 KCal/hr.
Same HMS study says elliptical burns up to 800 KCal/hr

1066 > 800

I saw the comment up thread of mine that the 15 minute mile a pretty standard speed to walk..Umm, no, that’s 4 miles per hour..Which is pretty darn brisk.. I do 4.5 miles in 83 to 87 minutes every morning, am actively working to quicken my pace..This has been a challenge because of the Texas heat in Late July..It is humid out with feel like temps in the 90’s at 0630 in the morning ..I have to run sometimes if I want to cover my usual 4-4.5 mile distance in an hour..I think our performance varies with the conditions outside and how we fuel our bodies..I am a petite person with a smaller stride..

The average is about 15 minutes for a mile, but speed doesn't matter as long as you are moving your body! Running burns more calories per minute, but if you walk farther, it isn't going to make much difference. Your overall health and endurance is going to improve either way.

You are mistaken. A mile walked in 14 minutes burns off 105 calories for someone who weighs 150 pounds. An hour walk can burn up to 400 calories.
