planet fitness is the worst one. Someone told me about how good it was so I went there to see about it they told me "powerlifters and bodybuilders are not welcome here so we can't sell you a membership" I am neither one.
And so they gave you the only sincere compliment that they have available, IMHO. Good for you, I would like to be tossed from a gym for being "too serious"!
People avoid Squats, Power Cleans and Deads because they are hard! It's much easier to head over to the dumbell rack and do curls.
On that note, nothing ticks me off more than when some knucklehead is tying up my gyms one and only squat rack doing curls.... for an hour....
If you told me I could only do one lift and one lift only it would be squats or maybe deal lifts.
Word. I see people curling the big bar used for squating. Really? There are so many other bars you can use for curling. Curling goes on the near bottom on importance for me. I still do it but I always enjoy those dudes who focus on curling. They usually tend to have a nice big gut. I call that the Bally's body. Nice big arms and nice big gut.

If someone told me I could only do ONE lift, I'd do pullups, dips, and leg press. Yeah, I know that's 3 lifts, but I'd just ignore any arrogant SOB who told me that I could only do ONE lift!

Funny you say that. I needed to change up my routine, which has been more or less the same for years and years so I started doing pull up, dips and pushups in various positions using the "perfect pushup" (which really works and is so much easier on your wrists) and have really liked the results.
Deadlifts are considered a core excerise. Meaning, it will workout much of your body without you knowing it.
I was beyond lucky yesterday and walked (more like jogged) to the open squating bar area. At 505pm on a weekday with that open, I was beyond lucky.
Did my normal squat weights and it was a bit easier than last time even though my legs were a bit tired for running on Monday. I did my Deadlifts but had to switch drop 10 pounds on each side because my arms were starting to shake, knew I was going to drop the bar if I didn't. Is that a common issue?

I don't mind if they take a barbell and curl, or even do them in the squat rack if nobody is there, but once i want to come in and do squats, that's your cue to work behind me and give me the rack. You don't need to use the rack for curling.

I think that the point of the belt is to help stabilize your core and the idea behind it is that your core won't tire out during the lift. I also think that if one works without a belt and wants to start using one he they should try them with weight < 80% of his 1RM to get used to it. I hate people who use belts for all sets and also for ridiculous exercises like cable rows.
Sorry, I realize that's not really the answer to a question, but there is some information about belt useage.
^ I was going to say if he was using a belt he might try ditching it.
You guys beat me to the punch.
A belt is a crutch IMO.
You should be doing enough ab/core work so that you don't need a belt.
