Pagani's official report is short and brutally sweet. It reads:
'On the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife, in the early dawn, the Pagani Zonda R recorded a lap-time of 6:47 thanks to bespoke P-Zero tires developed by Pirelli.'
IMO there should be an effort to standardize track conditions (dictating when they could go out and test) and with even more difficulty perhaps wheels/tires. Obviously both have such a large degree of variability but it would help to give a more realistic comparison as to what the vehicles are capable of. For tires maybe they could standardize a compound and then engineer an array of designs for the manufacturers to pick from. Obviously no one would have to abide by the standards but as of right now many companies use the track as an unofficial benchmark, why not make it official.
I'd take the Pagani over a ZR1 if someone else was paying or I had effectively limitless funds, if nothing else for the untouchably l33t factor. ZR1 is a serious car in every respect, though.
I guarantee anyone looking at a Pagani isn't looking at a Chevrolet.
