Something like this is rare in Fairbanks. According to what I heard on the radio earlier today, this guy lost it when somebody cut in front of him in traffic, so he followed the man to a parking lot where he stabbed and killed him. Supposedly one of the witnesses had a gun and held the killer at gunpoint until the police arrived. One person loses his life, and probably two families will suffer for a very long time for it.

I'm always very aware when dealing with strangers. You never know when you might encounter some idiot who has nothing to live for and will try to kill you without thinking. I let a lot of stuff go because the upside is minimal the the downside could be literally your life. There are many low-lifes out there in which going to prison for attempted murder or murder is just "part of the life".

If someone is following you with road rage, go to a police station or to an area where you know they hang out. If you don't know these places, find out. It could save your life.

This is obviously a senseless killing, but perhaps it may help promote a little introspection on the part of those drivers who think nothing of wielding their 4k+ pound vehicles in a manner which endangers the lives of scores of other drivers who are only trying to get from point A to point B.

More details about the killing. It seems that the killer has not have been in Alaska for a long time, and has quite a log criminal record on CA:

Wow- My brother just moved from Fairbanks to LA. He said FBX was pretty awesome and didn't want to have to leave. Sad that nowhere is immune to this type of thing.

Yes, its relatively safe around Fairbanks compared to a lot of places around the US. But there is a good chance that the killer is not from here.

Mee-ow.

But, it's naive to believe that "it can't happen here". It doesn't matter where the person is from. There are people everywhere who are on the verge of going over the edge. Sadly, as problems in America begin to pile up, you are going to see more and more of this type of behavior in unexpected places.
