First off, I like to say hello. Planning on relocating to Fairbanks, I retired from the Marine Corps Aug 2010. Moved to Las Vegas to work at MGM Casinos -- been in Las Vegas since Aug 2010, now that MGM has outsourced their IT Dept to the Phillipines. My wife worked at Chena Hot Springs about 8 years ago. She wants to go back, I spent 3 months in shishmarel about 20 years ago. We are looking forward to returning.

Few questions:

I know IT jobs are scarce but I need a job -- I grew up on a farm (jack of all trades).

How is the housing market and/or rental properties?

Thanks in advance for advice and wisdom.

a. As you said, jobs are scarce, specially permanent full-time jobs. But there may be some temporary work around.

b. Housing market has remained high (no change). A 2-bedroom apartment costs from $1,000 to perhaps $1,300 per month depending on location, and a garage or not. Add one month worth of rent for a security deposit.

c. Heating fuel is expensive, so if you own a home in Fairbanks and vicinity, the average cost at the moment should be around $600.00 per month (12 months x $600). The highest monthly cost will be during the winter, however (I gave you an average cost).
