Accepted a job offer in Fairbanks and will be there in two weeks. My wife and I are pretty dang excited as it's been a place we've wanted to go for a long time but would never dream of picking up and going with out work already lined up. I still dread reading about people moving there with out work and wonder if they can make it on X amount of dollars???

Anyway, I'm an avionics tech modifying medical helicopters in Colorado and will continue to do that in AK but helo's for the oil/gas industry instead. Wife's a teacher and then we have a 2 year old son. We're stoked!!!

And just because, here's a pic

Sounds like a sweet gig. I spent parts of the last two summers zipping around the foothills south of Fairbanks in an R44 (military land survey work). The only relevant thing I can say is that Alaskan helicopter pilots are f-ing nuts... You'll hit Fairbanks at a good time. Cold as hell when you get here, but warming and brightening quickly.

No. They're giving me 30 days in a company apartment to do some searching though. I've been looking on Craigslist and the online paper so I have a good idea on what to expect. Searching for something two bed with utilities paid. Reading through the forums, I know what areas to try and avoid so i'm thinking something in the N, NW? Must have running water and all the "normal" things you'd expect in a house/apartment. .... That's my plan anyway.

Nah, no animals. We're not really pet people anymore. Had a few cats a few years back but we decided after our son was born that we'd give them away when we moved out of state to a family member and that'd be the end of it. Too much work and cleaning up! Plus I HATED having fur on my clothes and couches... Grossssss.

Dress warm and make sure that you have the anti-freeze in your vehicle mixed at a 60 40 mix.

Be careful of the Craigslist ads that sound too good to be true. They are.
