Bud, somehow I missed your question (twice) about the Polaris. It's still standing but has been derelict and an eyesore for many years. Lots of issues, including asbestos, make it too costly to renovate. The City of Fairbanks acquired title to it last year after it was foreclosed from an out-of-town developer who had acquired it in 2005 and promised great things, but never delivered. Also found the following on the web - https://www.fairbanksalaska.us/cityc...g-group-update - looks like the city is continuing to try to redevelop the site, but not sure where they might get the money to do so. Perhaps someone local has more insight on this.
