Just how prevalent are gangs in Fairbanks?

The following story has everything needed to describe what happens all to often in South Central L.A. - Crips, Bloods, a drive-by shooting, and a family that has lost a valuable member.

About the only thing different is that the defendant's attorney witnessed the shooting.

Quote:
Davis was initially represented by local attorney Jason Gazewood, but the judge ordered that Davis consult with a different lawyer before testifying because Gazewood witnessed the shooting and testified that Young resembles the triggerman he saw.
Past gang problems get attention in Fairbanks drive-by shooting trial - Fairbanks Daily News-Miner: News

What do local Fairbanks residents think about such gang violence taking place in their fair (pun intended) city?

If there's gang violence in Fairbanks, it's very isolated and not well organized. I've never come across any. And I went to the Snoop Doggy Dogg concert a few years back. That makes me an expert in gang culture, right? heh heh

I'm not even sure the Hells Angels have any members up in Fairbanks anymore. They have a clubhouse here in Anchorage but there numbers are few.

Yea there are still a few around. I see them at the Howling Dog in the summer.

As far as gangs go, they are not real prevalent. There are a lot of kids that think they are "gansta" but that's not the same thing. If you don't associate with that portion of our society and stay away from a certain part of town, then you are pretty safe.

I guess that's good, eh? First time I've seen any in Anchorage in years was this summer at the 4th of July stuff on the park strip. A couple of their members are gettin' on in age.

All of you would be wise to continue to keep them out. Make it unattractive for them to move in...

Gangsters don't do very well at 30 BELOW or when the public is armed better than they are!

We have both in Fairbanks!
