Anyone know if you can purchase K-1 (clear) Kerosene at the pump anywhere in Fairbanks area?

I've got heaters and lanterns that need clear because the red-dyed #1 stove oil gunks up the wicks. I'm getting really tired of having to buy K-1 in 5 gallon pails all the time... there are only so many ways to repurpose a metal pail that once contained toxic materials!

Go to the airport and see if you can get some Jet-A, it's a more refined version of heating fuel. Might be a little more spendy, but worth a try.

Thanks Warptman, I didn't even think of aerofuels... which is stupid because we used JP-5 from the USCG in our heaters when I was staying on Kodiak.

And it looks like Jet-A at the pump is $3-5 cheaper than K-1 clear in a can... awesome!

Yeah, Jet-A is between $5.50 & $6. K-1 clear is between $8.75 & $10.

(Can I just say how much I hate the Clinton administration for the whole red-dye thing!!)

Yeah. I don't like the red dye thing either. I know people who won't use it in their backhoes or generators...

Thanks for the pricing.

Year ago I worked as a line boy at a airport in NJ. Just 100LL and 80LL then at that airport. We would have people who ran hotrod cars, and drag cars, who wanted to buy 100LL for them. Cause the 100LL is taxed as avfuel (and not road fuel taxes) we could not sell it for 'Road' use.

We had to ask is it for road use? If they said yes, we told them we could only sell it for aviation use. So, we then would ask are you going to put this in your plane that you have on a off-site grass strip. They would then say yes. We would put the N number on the ticket for a plane we knew that was based on a grass strip about 20 miles away.
