Thanks for the info about the races, Ray; I'm the same with photos and I don't like to post pictures with other people in them unless they've given their permission. When I've posted pictures of restaurants on TripAdvisor, the places always look empty because I pick the photo with nobody in it--I know I wouldn't like to see a picture of me stuffing my face!

Just got back up the hill and it is windy up here; it was so warm in Fairbanks today I'm wondering how fast those sculptures are going to melt.

I like to be back up the hill by twilight but I hope to visit Ice Alaska once more at night later this month. Hopefully there will be something left--I recall in 2011 the temps were in the 20s and some sculptures crashed, so thinking more will this time.
I think it will be fine. I remember years when the temperature was around 40 degrees at the start of the Yukon Quest.

Remember to check the UAF Auroras for a long term forecast (just search "UAF: Auroras forecast"). And then keep an eye on this one:
OVATION Aurora

What you do once you get there is to click on the map of the Northern hemisphere that shows Alaska. When the tip of the bright green lights reach Fairbanks, it's time to be out there

Thanks Ray, will check out the Ovation site.

Glad to hear the sculptures should be OK; I imagine the folks who put in all that effort would like to see their creation last a while longer!

I saw the awards presentation March 7th and it was neat to see the beaming faces of the participants; overheard one person say 'I can't believe I'm here'--must be a remarkable feeling, creating something like that.

Going to try this again; wanted to add these earlier but had some computer slowness and then hit the wrong button (more than once).

Enjoyed seeing the sculptures both day and night:

Very nice

It sounds like you are having a lot of fun. Believe me when I tell you that it's not as much fun when cold out there. I am enjoying this weather, specially since it is cooling by the weekend.

I believe you.

My host told me that once again, I've brought the warm weather from Arizona.
I was told the same in 1/2013 and 2/2012, too.

Today I am just hanging out, savoring the view which is different everywhere I look, all day long.

Ovation is looking pretty good now. Hopefully you will be able to photograph the Auroras tonight.

Bedtime for me, however

Glad that you are having a great time visiting.

Shoot. I was hoping for another display, but as you say things could change. I am fortunate to have seen what I've seen; got here for my first trip just before a solar event 3/2011 and have seen lovely lights each trip, so I really can't complain if I don't see more--but I can still hope!

There was a little activity a couple hours later which was also lovely (I think that tall spruce in the foreground is the most photographed spruce in the history of the world):

It was funny; at first the lights appeared faintly so I walked over to the main lodge to chat with some folks, then I got too warm and my clothes got clammy so I headed back to the room to change. Just when I had peeled off the last layer, the radio call comes in: 'IT'S HERE! RIGHT OVERHEAD! YOU NEED TO GO OUTSIDE!'

I've never dressed so fast in my life.
