First NYE in Fairbanks. Where should I go to celebrate? Don't feel like ringing in the new year in an empty apt. TIA

Since you will not see any fireworks on Independence Day, we do them to ring in the New Year:

Fireworks talk to precede New Year

Welcome & happy new year!

The will be some 5+- course dinners at Lavelle's Bistro restaurant (on the hotel at 1st Ave.), but you must call for a reservation, and withdraw a few hundred $ from the bank on the way there. I was going there on NYE with my wife to celebrate our wedding anniversary, but she refused because even one simple meal is too much food for her. Can you imagine a 5 or more course meal?

If you like a place to eat not so fancy food, and to drink some of the local beer (very good beer, in fact), give the Silver Gulch a call to see if they are open on NYE after the fireworks. Go with some friends or relatives, and have a non-drinker driving back home after. NYE is a time to be with friends and family celebrating.

Depending on cloud covers, the Auroras are supposed to be active toward the weekend. There are Japanese tourists all over Fairbanks and North Pole.

You have lots of beautiful pictures of Auroras but none of fireworks that I have seen. Just sayin'!

Don't like fireworks that much. Besides, the wind gusts this evening are fierce. Can you imagine the folks taking pictures of the fireworks tonight, if these Auroras show in the background? I don't plan to be there, however.
