My suggestion would be, right now, where you currently live - challenge yourself to go, say, 10 days without using tap water at all. Showering at a gym or other public facility, purchasing water for cooking and cleaning, etc.

That's a great suggestion. OP will quickly learn why Alaskans buy more baby wipes than any other state. It's not because we have more babies.

Lots of good advice to be had here. Sure you can do it, many of us have at one time or another. A lot of times it ends up being some unpredictable detail that breaks your back. There are lots of dry cabins, but they are not all well-designed comfortable dry cabins! Renting something is best at first. Why plunk down your nest egg on something you end up hating in a year? Breaking a lease is easier than selling a place no one else happens to want at the time you want to move.

On the topic of dry cabins, do any people who live in them use chamber pots during the winter? Sounds gross, sure, but when the alternative is bundling up in the middle of a subzero night to stumble out to an outhouse and then expose the lower body to severe cold, I would assume using a chamber pot wouldn't bother many people. Of course, I'm assuming that the dry cabins typically have detached outhouses; maybe the bathrooms are attached to the main structure and accessible from inside.

Honey buckets are a thing, yes.

Personally I prefer to make a run to the outhouse even when it's freezing, but depending on your setup, health, state of sobriety, etc. that might not be feasible.

We used a honey bucket when I lived in the village of Wainwright. Use the 13 gallon trash bag liners from Costco. Empyed at least every 2 or 3 days.

In my 20s, I rarely had to get up at night. In fact, I slept in a loft. These days, no. I'd need a toilet or a bucket. It's why I now hate those tiny homes with lofts, LOL!

I would opt for the 18gal compactor bags as they are 2mil thick and a lot stouter! Item #503295

Incidentally, a "dry" cabin only means there is no running water. It doesn't mean it doesn't have electricity or other utilities.

I would definitely not randomly buy a place like this before actually living in a dry cabin for a while.
Do you know how can I find cabin for rent?
Do you know how much is the rental cost..?
