My wife is a travel nurse and we are thinking about taking a contract in Fairbanks. Housing is included and is at Wedgewood Resort. Anyone know what the area is like as far as crime, drugs or other issues? Thanks

I've never heard of any chronic problems in that area. Work put us up in Wedgewood for a few days some years ago, and it seemed perfectly decent. It's not new or anything, and may show a little wear and tear, but that's par for the course in Fairbanks. It's a converted apartment complex, so the units are more "homey" than most hotels.

Yeah, we used to house contractors there, and no one ever complained. There's an elementary school across the road, so the neighborhood can't be too bad. I picked up and dropped off coworkers several times, and I recall thinking that the rooms seemed fine. The only thing that struck me was that it seemed both enormous and deserted, although it was in the middle of winter, so... any hotel in Fairbanks probably would seem deserted.

My wife has done travel nursing. You may come out way ahead $$$ wise taking the tax free housing stipend and finding your own place. Something to think about. Negotiate a $2000 a month stipend and rent a $500 month dry cabin and pocket the difference .Wife is also a current nurse at Fairbanks Hospital so PM me with any potential questions.

Wedgewood resort, and most all of Fairbanks for that matter, is perfectly safe if you don't hang out in shady bars or use drugs.

Fairbanks doesn't really have "bad neighborhoods" like proper cities do. But yeah, that area is fine. Conveniently close to the big commercial blob of restaurants and box stores, too.

I am a third generation Alaska and know the Wedgewood well. When I was in my 20's I worked there and then moved away until 2007 when I lived there for two months waiting for the house to close.

It is absolutely safe. I would say one of the safest places to live for temporary living and hotel.

The walls are thin, though. Just a heads up. But a nice place for Fairbanks standards.

I disagree. South Cushman is bad. Lots of drugs, drunks, etc. It may not be huge like a larger city, but still, it exists.

It is true though that Fairbanks has bad houses sprinkled here and there. They cal these Weed and Seed neighborhoods. It's not uncommon to see a $300K house next to a run down house with rowdy neighbors.

That's not a neighborhood. That's, like, two blocks
