Maybe work in the National parks or on the railroad. They hire lots of temps. If you do the railroad then you could see a good bit of the state.
That's a good idea. I know a guy who comes up every year and works as a server on the train. He claims he makes a fortune in tips. It's long hours...12-13 hour days, but it's something like 2 days on and two off, which would give you some free time to have fun.

Have you checked the government websites? IT seems like there are constantly research-types looking at anything from grass to fish to flowers to air pollution, etc.... even if it's not your field, they hire people to do pretty simple stuff. And it would be in the outdoors!
Other than that - tourist stuff and children's camps. Train, riverboat, goldmines (the tourist ones), airlines - Frontier, Warbelows, Arctic etc. and etc. The tourist jobs usually offer an incentive if you stay until September.

If I were you I would pick a job that I would like and have fun with. I think wanting to come up and earn/save a bunch of money (while a nice idea) isn't going to happen for the reasons mentioned earlier.

Yep. I looked into this years back with Grayline of Alaska and their train service from Anchorage to Fairbanks. Servers were earning like maybe 9 dollars an hour plus tips. You just have to accept that the pay is what it is. It's not like you're supporting yourself during the winter when you have to worry about heating costs and such. You'll be in Alaska with a bunch of friends, experiencing something different. Paying off student loans is important, but that's what the first big "career" job out of school is supposed to do. And coming up to Alaska to work for the summer should be about experiencing the land and it's people. There are enough carpet baggers as it is. I know I"ll get hate for that comment. But, oh well.

Do people who actually bag carpets make good money?

You might want to start a new thread because this one's ancient.

Lots of summer jobs on coolworks:

I always advise those your age to get jobs in food service for the tip value. Also, Alaska isn't like NY where they rip you off in wages if you work in a restaurant.

You won't be able to get a server job in a place that serves hooch but you can work as a busser; the kids that work for Princess doing that pull in some pretty good loot. There are coffee jobs also.

Lots of jobs, really, but you need to start applying now. You're getting a late start as is it but something could turn up.

My reccomendation would to find a remote fishing lodge and take a job as a server/housekeeper. They usually pay between $1500 to $2000 per month plus tips. They provide room and board and some will pay your way to Alaska but the majority won't although they transport you between Anchorage and the lodge for free. You also get a bonus if you complete the season. Good Luck.
