Hello All!

I'm moving to Fairbanks from Little Rock, AR to attend graduate school. I'll be bringing my cat, but that's all I'm really attached to.

I'm wondering where the best places to live around campus are and the best way to get up there. Is a car really necessary up in Fairbanks, cause I don't think the one I have will make it up there.

Broke college student looking for all the advice she can get!!!

Thanks!

Leslie

I've got a friend from Ketchikan that's been going to school up there for 2 years now without a car. She does have a bike with studded tires that she rides all winter. But then again she lives on campus. I don't think they take cats on campus.

You don't need a car if you live on campus, but pets are not allowed in the dorms, nor in the apartments. You may be able to rent a small place off campus, and there is a bus line you may be able to use depending on the apartment's location. It's nice to have a car if you live off campus, but lots of students ride bicycles during the summer and winter. For winter riding you would need winter tires, some of which have studs. A lot of students rent apartments off campus, and share it with other students to help with the rent payments.
