Did the shockwaves from the volcanic eruption in the South Pacific wake you up at 5 this morning? It woke up half the Goldstream Valley this morning thinking there'd been an explosion

I was sound asleep, but my wife was up by then and didn't feel anything.

I woke up around then but that's not unusual and I didn't notice an explosion. However, when they are launching 747s off of Anchorage's airport runways 7 left and 7 right our house gets rocked if they break to the south after take off. I don't think I would suspect a loud noise in the middle of the night to be anything other than an aircraft.

Well, I sincerely hope that all of us in the interior of Alaska are enjoying the mild winter. But I don't enjoy driving the extremely bumpy Richardson between Fairbanks and North Pole. Badger Road is in worst shape.

A heads up about the snow accumulating on the roofs around Fairbanks and vicinity:

It is a good idea to have the snow shoveled off your house's roof. I know of two homes in North Pole that had roof collapses last week because of the heavy snow. Last week I called a "roofing" company that is based in North Pole shovel the snow off my home's roof. The snow on top of my house was just about 3-foot deep, and was removed by a crew of seven workers in just a little over one hour.

While paying to have the roof cleared is expensive (the company charges $105.00 x hour x worker), it is still money well-spent since a roof collapse can turn into be very expensive repair. The company also is self-insured and bonded.

By the way, a week later I am still awaiting for the roofing company above to send me a bill for the work. No idea why they haven't contacted me after calling and emailing them several times.
