Yes, no real spring/fall... just a couple of weeks of not-so-cold winter on either side of summer LOL! Well it's good to know I can save some cash and storage space by eliminating all the midweight stuff.

I know what you mean about overheating by the time you get all the layers on. I went skiing with friends in Alyeska and they loaded me up with thermals, fleece and then insulated... lord, I thought I was going to roast! I was baking just standing around waiting for the lift, I can't imagine how hot I would have gotten if I were actually doing something. I took off the fleece layer, was still too hot; ended up taking off the outer insulated layer, putting the fleece back on and just using my wind/rain shell on top.

If I remember correctly, I was almost too toasty wearing heavy thermals and insulated outers during our winter hiking trip up near Nenana as well. I seriously hope that I'm only out in the serious cold when there is some work to be done, not just standing around picking my nose... but having the shell liners is always a good idea! You never know, I might want to lie in the snow and look at the stars or something

My kids have been wearing t-shirts for almost 3 weeks. It still goes down to the 30's at night but it is warm from about 8 on in the morning.

Hey Mal... sounds almost like Seattle I'm still trying to convince my husband that 60 is warm enough for shorts. Ah well, he'll get used to it once we're up there... I'll just make sure that he has plenty of warm clothes until his blood thickens up LOL.

Me think shorts with thermals hanging to the ankles is fashionable!!!

Blueflame - nothing sexier than a pair of silk thermal tights, a mini skirt and XtraTufs

These guys are giving you great advice for things you need for clothing. But the first thing you need to get when you get up here is a block heater for your truck. Or get one installed before you move. Plugging your car in so it will start in Fairbanks is not an option, its a requirement. Also, you may want to get studded tires on your truck in you are not used to driving on ice and in the snow. Last but not least, get winter wipers and an emergency road kit for your truck.

P.S. You're not a true Alaskan unless you have a tow rope in that truck to help out fellow motorists whom get stuck and need a tug. ENJOY YOUR MOVE!

When I bought my Ranger in Seattle I asked for a block heater. "Block heater?" is what I got in return.
