He always took the time to talk to us and was happy to share stories about the endless memorabilia in his store. It's a very sad loss and such a heinous act against someone who probably would have handed over anything they demanded w/o a fight.

The News Miner article , and a second one, for those interested. This is so fresh, I'm sure this is just the first article of more to come.
That's what gets me the most. I don't know him but I almost feel like I do from everything that I've read and it just breaks my heart to think that such a gentle soul had his life taken away in such a callous manner. I know that crime happens everywhere and I don't take this one act as a reflection of our town but it does shake you a bit when it happens so close to home.

Not everyone who opposes a death penalty is a "bleeding heart." I oppose the death penalty because I will never be able to trust that, given the power to kill its own citizens, any government would not abuse that power.

I have absolutely no moral problems with killing in self-defense or killing an enemy during times of war, but I will always oppose giving government the power to kill its own people. Government simply cannot be trusted with that kind of authority.

One of the suspects in this murder was bailed out awaiting sentencing in an earlier child molestation. Hell has a special place reserved for these types and the sooner they get there the better as far as I'm concerned. With the latest forensic technology I'll take the chance that the government gets it right and rids us of this scum.

What I meant was, that he was out on bail awaiting sentencing for the sexual assault of a minor when the murder was committed.

That struck me as pretty strange too.

I went looking for an update, this is what I found:
Quote:
FAIRBANKS -- Charging documents filed today allege that three men planned to kill a local businessman to hinder a military investigation, though one almost backed out of the plot at the last minute. Raymond Jones, 29, Michael C. Moore, 23, and Brian Towndrow, 21, have each been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery and tampering with evidence in connection with the death of Daniel Frederick, the 62-year-old longtime owner of Blondie’s antiques and military supplies, considered by many to be a downtown landmark.
Bail for the men, who have court-appointed attorneys, has been set at $1 million each.
An excerpt from the News Miner article on the 24th. We probably won't hear any more on this until their sentencing/trial which will probably be a year give/take from now.
