Hi, glad to find this forum! I'm planning a move to Fairbanks, AK and wonder what happy people do with so much darkness in the winter and so much brightness in the summer? That's intriguing stuff to me, seems like it would challenge human ingenuity and I'll bet it does.

Do tell !

When it is winter...I love the extra dark and think it is perfect.

When it is summer...I love the extra light and think it is perfect.

Guess what I'm trying to say is: no matter what the light/weather...it is somehow seems right...and is just...you guessed it...perfect

In the summer I drink beer and in the winter I drink beer. That is what keeps me happy.

I don't wanna be in Iraq. I certainly do not want to be in Idaho. Alaska than! And I do love beer!
And since power outages in the lower 48 result in a population surge 9 months later... I think I might have an idea what goeas on in all that darkness ...

Well, every now and then we have summers where there is not much sunlight. For example, this year we have over 500 wildfires around Alaska, several which are near Fairbanks. Today (Wed. 08-05-09), and sun looked much like a red disk on the sky, and one could look at it directly without wearing sunglasses. Visibility has been less than a mile in some areas, and ashes falling from the sky like snow

Hey Ray, just because it does not blind you, it doesn't mean it is safe to look directly at. At least for longer than just a moment. There is plenty other wave lenghts than the visible that can hurt your eyes.

Thanks.

What you have said is true, but this time it was just a very faint brightness behind the smoke. It was dark all day.
