Hi everyone.. Thinking about moving to fargo specifically from las vegas.. I've been here over 10 years, and the heat, and the attitude of las vegas has me fed up... I'm about to lose my job here, due to managers obtuseness, I'm a low level blue collar guy, mainly working in the animal shelter industry as a kennel cleaner/caretaker of dogs and cats.. I found out fargo has a VERY low unemployment rate, so I'm hoping to secure employment quickly after my arrival? I've worked for the same company 3 years, and been in MANY other types of jobs, telephone surveys, general labor, even lived and travelled with carnivals for a year... I don't drive, but ride bicycles, so ideally I'd like to secure a room and hopefully employment within the metro area.. My hometown is Buffalo, NY, so I understand the cold!! I will have plenty of savings to live on while moving and seeking employment, so I could probably last a year without being hired, however, I rather not have to!! Any suggestions, comments, etc from people presently living in fargo would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks everyone!! Signed: Johnny D

The manufacturing jobs in Fargo (insulated glass, window manufacturing) are all located out in the industrial park which does not have bus service & would be a difficult bike ride during severe winter weather. There are several telemarketing/survey companies that operate in town as well as a banking service center. Here are a few places to look:
www.jobsnd.com -- The State of ND's job service web site; you can search by zip code, city, etc.
www.jobshq.com --the online job site of the Forum, the local newspaper

It will be a bit colder than Buffalo, but much more sun and less snow.
Hope this gets you started!

Might want to leave that out of your job interviews.

I have frequently seen jobs for animal caretakers in Grand Forks, about an hour drive north of Fargo. I'm not sure about Fargo's busses, but Grand Forks busses have fold down bike racks so you can ride with your bike.
