Over the weekend of August 16, 2013 and August 19, 2013 two long time Fargo radio stations, Active Rock station KQWB-FM formerly at 98.7 FM and Hot Adult Contemporary(Soft Rock) KLTA-FM formerly at 105.1 FM, switched places.
KLTA-FM rebranded itself as "Big 98.7 Today's Best Music without the Rap" taking aim at longtime top-40 station WDAY-FM 93.7 (Y-94FM) which does play some hip-hop in its rotation.
KQWB-FM moved to 105.1 FM and rebranded itself as "Q 105.1 Rocks" which places the active rock station closer on the dial to long time classic rock station "107.9 FM The Fox" and the rock station in Grand Forks KJ-108 (107.9 FM) which still has a very clear signal in Fargo-Moorhead.
The 98.7 FM transmitter is closer to Fargo-Moorhead while the 105.1 FM transmitter is located 25-miles south of Fargo meaning Q-105.1 FM does not sound good in Grand Forks whereas Big 98.7 FM still has good reception in Grand Forks. 105.1 FM does sound stronger in northeastern South Dakota and west Central Minnesota than does 98.7 FM which does not reach as far into South Dakota.

I live in GF/EGF and found the radio market in our local area is better than Fargo. Though I do like 104.7 as I am a more 80s-90s type of music person. That signal can be shaky....in the car is ok but inside most buildings limited.
But yes 105.1 in Grand Forks you here the country station the Maverick out of Langdon. I also do like to listing to 106.7 which is more adult top 40 music covering the border...Winkler-Langdon-Walhalla. That comes in ok in the car but not inside any structure.
It has now been one year since the switch between Big 98.7 FM and Q-105.1 which "Radio Fargo-Moorhead Inc" completed.
KLTA-FM (Big 98.7) has risen to a 7.9% share in the ratings; good for a third place finish, but still trailing fellow Top-40 competitor WDAY-FM (Y-94) which fell from an 11.5-to-a-10.6% rating for the "Midwest Communications" owned station keeping them in second place behind first place winning "news/information" station (The Mighty 790) KFGO-AM with an 11.4% rating also owned by Midwest Communications. The Jim Ingstad Family has really put a lot of money and resources this past year to improve Big 98.7FM including: the music, on-air personalities and the signal quality.
The "Radio Fargo-Moorhead Inc." owned Active Rock station KQWB-FM (Q-105.1) has fallen from a 4.1 rating down to a 2.4% showing placing Q-105.1 in twelvth place; more importantly placing them behind "Midwest Communications" owned competitor KRWK-FM 101.9 (Rock 102) which had a 2.8% rating. This also places Q-105.1 behind classic rocker KPFX-FM (107.9 The Fox) at 5.5%, and Classic Hits Station KEGK-FM (Eagle 106.9 FM) has a 5.9% rating.
Sports station KVOX-AM (740 The Fan), with the 4th largest daytime listening coverage area of any AM station in the United States, too had a 2.8% rating while conservative talk station WZFG-AM (1100 The Flag) did not show-up in this ratings period, however I believe their most recent ratings showing was a 1.7% share.
The increase in rating just shows that people are willing to listen to Maroon 5, Bruno Mars, Pink and Katy Perry played in the same loop.
If anyone is thinking about moving to Fargo a car headunit with USB control is a must. The radio stations here love to play the same stuff over and over again.
