Which public high school out of the 4 is the best in the Fargo area to place your child and why?
Good experiences? Bad?

Hi...

I have no experience with Fargo HS....we live north of the city. But there are actually 3 public HS: North, South and the newest Davies. There is a community HS....more alternative HS. Shanley is private.

Define what you think is "best."
There is the perception that Davies is the "best" because the richest kids live in that attendance area and there are the fewest English Language Learners.
My 2 sons attended South High, and overall had a great experience. It is a much more diverse school, but much more cohesive than Davies. There definitely are options for academic excellence as well (older son was part of champion team in tri-state math competition and the econ challenge team qualified for the national competition).
At North, as currently the smallest of the three, there is a smaller chance that kids will get lost in the shuffle and probably more possibilities to participate in activities.

All three schools have kids with drugs/drinking issues and all three have a police presence--school resource officers.
The demographic picture of each school can be found here: Public Information Warehouse - LRFP-Portal under Secondary information.

I might ruffle a few feathers with this comment, but in my experience with knowing students in all three schools and reading news reports, regardless of the school the kids involved in cross country are some of the best (geek sport, I know), and stay clear of hockey players (a LOT of alcohol, parent enabling, and a few sexual assault arrests).

Keep in mind West Fargo has two high schools that are options: West Fargo and Sheyenne. Moorhead is also an option as well as Dilworth.

All of the public schools in the Fargo Moorhead area are excellent, especially when compared to schools across the country. You won't go wrong with any of them. Whichever one you feel is the "best" really depends on what your emphasis is in high school.

Big on theatre? Moorhead or Sheyenne High School are both excellent choices, although all of the theatre programs are strong. Success in Varsity sports important? West Fargo High School and Fargo South come to mind. Want the best opportunity to actually make a varsity team? Sheyenne and Davies are your newest schools, and therefore your best bet. Want strong academics? All of the schools excel here.

My children are in the Sheyenne High School system and we have been very happy with it.
