In Asia I'm always super tall - like by at least a head or two and I wear size XL. Here I'm just medium-tall and I wear size XS-S. I am tall enough for Asian runway but not for US runway, ha!

I'd have to say a lot of this is probably environmental since my grandmothers were both around or under 5'.

From my perspective (not scientifically accurate):

Male:

  • Short: 177 cm and shorter
  • Average: 178-184 cm
  • Tall: 185 cm and taller
Female:
  • Short: 165 cm and shorter
  • Average: 166-172 cm
  • Tall: 173 cm and taller

There was a piece published a few years back (can't remember where), stating that the average height in NY is 5'8 for men and 5'4 for women.

I am living in a town that is half Mexican and the average height is definitely the shortest of any place I have lived. I am 5'7 and this is the first place I have lived where nobody has made a rude remark to me about how short I am. Part of this is because people are polite up here but I think it's also because I don't stand out as being short here.

AMEN!!!

When I was single I despised every short woman with a tall man. Could have been mine!! Your dating pool is 100%. Don't take away from our 10% of good dudes we can date.

In Taiwan, I'd say...

Men:
Short = <5'7
Average = 5'7~5'11
Tall = >5'11

Women:
Short = <5'3
Average = 5'3~5'6
Tall = >5'6

I know, we're short. Sigh.

I am 5'2 which is considered short. Medium would be 5'10 and tall 6'.
