So schools right around the corner and I am getting excited about buying my daughter school clothes. I like to shop at a couple different places, namely Burlington Coat Factory, Ross, and sometimes K-mart. As for shoes she likes Journeys for kids usually. my kid is 10 but definitely has her own sense of fashion. She loves wearing Vans tennis, I wish she would wear baby Phat or something more stylish but oh well......
And I know some people actually like their kids to have uniforms, I personally detest them. I think they are ugly and kids cannot be individuals in them. Especially in a PUBLIC school, they shouldn't be forced to wear them. And some people say they save money but I have to disagree on that too. My kids need clothes anyways, so i have to buy them regular sclothes PLUS uniforms so that does not save money.
Last year before we moved my daughter had to wear uniforms, and although they do make them a little more stylish than they used to, they still are not anything that she nor I would buy. And the colors....tan w/red or blue...not the best color combo.
Anyways, that's my opinion...we will be shopping for clothes in another week as school starts in August 16th here. So lots of summer clothes still..
I grew up in Australia where ALL schools require a uniform. I never had any issues being an "individual" and neither did my kids or anyone else I know. It sure cut out all the #$%^ about who's wearing what no-name or named label clothing/shoes that seems to permeate schools here.
We "dressed to impress" (or not) OUTSIDE school hours - we were there to be educated, not be fashion plates.
Ok but some kids like to have style and fun with fashion and I don't see anything wrong with it, especially when they are doing good in school...I used to love going school shopping every year when I was a kid.
But anyways, this thread isn't meant to be just about uniforms, its about fashion for kids too.
At ten, you shouldn't be super concerned with how "stylish" her clothes are, considering she'll be grown out of them in around a year. Regardless, Target seems to have nice clothing for children.
No uniforms. I got my sons clothes mostly from Kohls, jeans, tees, polos and the occasional dress shirt. Basically the same stuff he always wore even when not in school, we just cleared out and replaced when the sales rolled around.
Yeah here in Phoenix summer clothes are on clearance but here everyone still wears summer clothes well into December! So a person can find good deals at this time.

Well, I want her to dress cute and wear what she likes. When I was a kid my grandparents (who raised us) sometimes made me wear clothes I hated and I felt like such a dork! besides, I don't spend tons of money, like you said kids outgrow clothes but that's why I like going to Ross or Burlington. I do spend a little more on shoes because I want them to last but that's about it.
