I don't get it. What is the big deal about Vera Bradley purses? Where I live people seem to go crazy for her purses. The prints are ugly and they look like something that even I can make. They're not really expensive but I think that they're over priced.
Anybody else seeing a lot of women with Vera Bradley purses?
Most of my family is in suburban Cincinnati, and almost all of the women have Vera Bradley bags. (Where I live now, I rarely see them.) My sisters love them, and cannot understand why I won't get one just to be like them. I think they're hideous.
I think they're more popular in the south but I've seen a lot in the northeast too. I like the pockets/compartments inside, helps me stay organized! Am not too crazy for the bold bright patterns - I prefer the darker, more subtle ones - but that's just me. They have a ton of styles and sizes from wallets to placemats to overnite bags and diaper bags too. I just wish they were a little less in price but I do like them.
I'm with you OP...I see these and they look like a home-ec project to me...or knitting/sewing bags. I have no idea why people find them attractive. They look "old" to me (and I'm not young!).
To each his own. I just got one for my birthday, as a gift, and I love it. And, I've had literally tons of compliments on it, and the matching wallet, so it can't be all that hideous!
My Gram was never without hers. I still picture her in her overlong old fur coat, "babushka", sensible shoes and Vera bag. I think she got it when they first appeared - late 1970's perhaps?
Thats still the image I still see when someone mentions Vera Bradley bags.
But, they are wildly popular.

It's funny that you mentioned Cincinnati because that's where I live.
I really like Vera Bradley. I use the little stuff for inside (checkbook cover, wallet, wristlet, coin purse, glass case) year round, I have a backpack that I take when a purse isn't quite big enough, but I use the purses during the summer only. (I prefer leather for a winter, everyday bag) It's 'kitchy' and fun - without being "too youthful".
I liked the off brand "Lemon Hill" better though - the patterns were slightly more subtle and the bags were better designed. They were waaaay cheaper too, though even if they'd been the same price, I'd have bought them.
BTW - I've bought quilted homemade bags off ebay for the more sedate patterns - but the bags fall apart - they just can't stand up like a Vera can.

I did a couple years back, they seem to have lost popularity where I live.
I do like the small coin purses and wallets and have a couple of those, but wouldn't purchase a bag and has nothing to do with price.

They're everywhere there--it's nuts. Last time I was home I went to a baby shower. You know how everyone kind of puts their purses in a corner? The purse corner looked like a Vera Bradley store.
