Do you think my hairdresser charges too much? I went for a haircut, blowdry and root touch-up and she charged me 107.35.
When I got root touch-up, hilites and a blow dry she chrged me 178.00.
I have to go every 2 months because of the grey but at this rate I won't be able to afford it. I get my hair cut every 4 months.
Is there anything else I could use to cover up grey at the roots?
What do you recommend?

I color my own hair at home. I've paid to have it done professionally in the past and just can't see paying $100 for something I can do at home with a $5 bottle of hair color and no one can tell the difference.

My hair stylist is very inexpensive though - she only charges $25 for a haircut and blow dry and she does an excellent job. She has also told me that if I want to try highlights or streaks or something a little more elaborate than just an all-over color to first color it at home like I usually do to get rid of the gray and then she will just add the streaks for much less than doing the whole job herself.

Root touchups are generally a bit expensive but 178 is a very high price, or at least would be around here.

How long is your hair? I always figure if I am going into a salon I won't be embarrassed to walk out of its going to be at least that. Its not the cheapest but its not that bad either. If its blonde I would just stick with the stylist. If its brown/black/red I would ask her for a color match to a boxed kit you can touch up with. Maybe something demi-perm so you really can't mess it up and then she can color later on.

WHAT??!! 107 bucks?? I have the same thing done here, and she charges me 35 dollars....of course, I always give her a $7.00 tip.
Sometimes, I have her to do my eyebrows, but even when she does that, its not much over 40 bucks.
Yes. You are getting ripped...bad!!

$107 every other month..plus and extra $70 on the 4th month...so let's see that's..
$107x6 = $642 and $70x4 = 280... $642+280=$922.

For twice that - the cost of 2 years worth of hairdressing drama, you can have a wig custom-made for you, with natural hair in any color you want, hand-tied and permanently styled, that only needs to be washed every other week. A wig like that would last you around 4 years. You would also save gas, save tip money, save scheduling and planning, save time, save energy, save your own hair since you won't be having it chemically altered to the point where you have none left by the time you're 60...

I say shave your head and buy a wig, and save yourself a lot of time, energy, and trouble.

That's what I do

She is not getting ripped off if she knows the prices before the service is preformed.

If you want a cheap haircut then go to a place like super cuts.

Or, for free, cut it herself
