Can these ever become popular, outside of tuxedos?

I tried to bring the bow tie back today. White shirt, black bow tie, khaki slacks.

People say I look like Pee Wee Herman, and I kind of agree. However, if I keep rocking it could I make it come back? Maybe with like a tophat or something?

They are popular in the lawyer community. For those that don't take themselves too seriously. I think if you like them, then go for it. Who cares what others think?

I love them, I think they look best paired with a tux tho.

Bow ties are great. There is hardly a better look on a man than a white shirt and a bow tie. I think that a baku hat finishes off the look well.

I don't have a jacket on. And the white shirt is short sleeved. I need to keep working on bringing the bowtie back, I guess.

This article was from 2008 so it's a bit outdated, but this is how I've seen bowties done well. I think combining the right patter/textures is key to rocking a nice bowtie look.

A black bowtie could (depending on what you wear it with) make you look like a cater-waiter or *gasp* Pee Wee Herman, as you said earlier.

Mmmmm that's Tom Ford - *love* him - he brought back the House of Gucci from the brink of collapse. He's so innovative. And he's making a foray into film director (A Single Man). So creative. Love him.

He's a fine specimen indeed. Of course...he's gay.
