You're right, there's more to people than looks.

However, if someone finds a person unattractive, they have a right to their opinion.

The poster said Stevie Nicks is fat and old, but they never said Stevie Nicks is a bad person.

Stevie Nicks IS older. She's 62 years old. She's also gained weight over the years, partly due to drug addiction and other self-destructive behaviors. She's ALSO lost a lot of weight, since her initial gain.

She ALSO looks better than most of us will ever be able to DREAM of looking, when we reach that age, without undergoing surgery - which she's never had. She's been to hell and back - her own doing. And she's come out looking marvelous, and is still packing the Houses at her concerts.

She has jowls. OMG stop the presses, call the president. WTF - she's sixty-freakin-two years old. I think she's earned the right to have extra flesh by now. And she STILL probably looks better than most of you.

What's wrong with having plastic surgery to look good for your age? Sounds like a lot of that Beauty Myth crap from Naomi Wolf. I heard she had to go back and revise and edit the whole thing.... it was full of lies. And that whole belief system is deader than dead-- the idea that there is some kind of cultural concept of beauty that is "forced" on women through the media..... or that there is one standard of beauty that controls everyone and we'd all be better off if accept ourselves as wrinkled, old or fat which "honors" our uniqueness. Total drivel. The most beautiful woman in the world the last few years is Angelina Jolie, who does not fit any kind of "beauty ideal".... bone thin, dark, and completely surgically enhanced... she is also over 35, and has probably had a face lift, from what I've read.

Modern culture has standards which people can choose to accept or reject... there are millions of ways to be beautiful, but in general, the culture does not and never will reward fat, old, wrinkled or ugly. There will always be someone to judge, dislike or or ignore those who don't fall in line with the standard. Beauty and youth is what is rewarded, period.

Gotta say I don't think Angelina Jolie is the most beautiful woman of the last few years. What she IS, is different enough to catch the eye. And I think those lips are hers. She had them when she was 10. Look at her dad.

And she needs to eat a sandwhich.

Yes, people can accept or reject standards, I agree.

That depends on what one calls "reward": many people throughout the world are admired and respected regardless of their looks, bc they have things like brightness and talent. One thing is not necessarily, and usually it is not, connected to the other.

When you say words like "fat", "old" or "wrinkled"; some people see a micro wrinkle and panic as others really don't think one is "old" after, say, 35, so they are all relative concepts as well. But "ugly" is truly a personal concept, people agree and disagree tremendously about that.

Yes, there will always be judgmental people regarding beauty. Funny though, the most judgmental ones aren't really in a privileged position when it comes to that very same beauty...

Beauty and youth is what is rewarded... by people who think that is all that matters. After that, I would write "period."

Just my opinion.

I'm judgmental regarding beauty. And I'm young and attractive.

I don't have a problem with those who get plastic surgery. If that's what you want to do, have at it. I'm just not granting you a gold star for looking "great for your age" once you do so. You threw money at something you didn't like and could not accept; there's nothing impressive about that. Now show me a woman looks "great for her age" due to diligent lifestyle choices, that impresses me. (And this, by the way, is the real reason these ladies lie about getting work done. They know that plastic surgery isn't impressive.)

Another woman who looks fantastic for her age: Iman. She's about 50 in this photo.

Take that, Suzanne Somers.

Wow...look at this link...Stevie Nicks looks fantastic...

So - those who dont fit the beauty standard are supposed to do what? I say we choose not to fall for the MYTH. If more women did, the billions of average-looking ones in this world wouldnt know how to act, with all this new self-confidence and less worry about what the one next to them looked like. They'd have hours every day to put toward work, fun, love, study - anything else besides trying to make themselves look like the beauty standard. I'm sure it wont happen in my lifetime - but i can hope, and try to empower the younger ones that i know.

Oh - and that book was fantastic. It reminds women that they ARE NOT THEIR LOOKS. Hopefully you know that you have many other good things about yourself than just what you look like. If you dont believe that, then women have come no where. Culture wont "reward" the fat, old, wrinkled, or ugly?? Sounds like a dog trying to get a treat

People shouldnt have to be rewarded for what they look like. Do your job good, live with feeling, give to others; work on your brain, your compassion, and learn about the world around you... instead of looking at which movie star looks the best for her age, or has the tightest skin and is the thinnest. These things are not what the world is about.

The reason we think that no one should be allowed to show their age, is because we see what is on the television, movie screens, or what is in magazines (ie. airbrushed and now photoshopped to death).

Good luck aging perfectly... becuz they still dont have entire body plastic surgery, and your bones will still be achey, your hair will still get dry, you will still lose your hormones after menopause - and the replacements can lead to cancer.

But keep following those Hollywood stars !!!
