Scent is a powerful memory trigger.
When my DS was in 4th grade, he had a lot of trouble with one particular teacher. He also started acting out at home. Of course, like good little "bad parents" we all trotted dutifully along to counseling, where we were told just how we were failing in our quest to parent......it must be something we were doing wrong and he was acting out at school, it was a cry for help, we were even investigated by CPS---although IMO it was the teacher who was abusing him and she should have been investigated, but, I digress.....
Then, my DD told me, "you smell like the mean teacher"
Huh? Turned out, I was using the same perfume the teacher used. It was Clinique Happy. I just had a lot of samples I was going through. Sure enough, whenever I used Happy, DS would act up (or is it Act Out).....whatever. I threw the perfume away, double and triple washed my clothes to remove the scent, and DS behavior totally changed for the better.
Could it be that simple?
Naaaa.......must go beck to counseling, need more counseling.....
