I work in fashion and we have never paid our interns. Most of them do not need the money, they often have wealthy parents that will foot the bill while they work to get their career off the ground. As expected, fashion jobs attract certain types of girls/guys.
With that said, what types of fashion jobs are you interested in? Like any "glamorous" job, fashion can be notoriously low-paying unless you manage to make the tough climb up the ladder and there are only so many jobs that everyone wants. It is cutthroat.

even though it's not "fashion" related, might I recommend you take a Meyers-Briggs test and then take one of those career interest diagnostic things? I took one recently and it pretty much made clear that part of the reason I was unhappy with parts of my current schooling is because I was trying to get a degree in something that didn't suit me..
you may *like* fashion but whether or not you can hang in that field without hating it or getting burned by colleagues or other entities is completely different.
edit: also, it is generally impolite to ask how much someone makes just fyi. most people won't tell you without being close friends or relatives.
If you really are considering a career in the fashion industry, take some drawing classes while still in high school. You WILL be required to draw sketches of your designs (and designs ideas that will be given to you in school).
When my wife was in design school, there were SOOOOOOOOOOO many people at the beginning, then SOOOOOOOOOOOOO many dropped out because they just couldnt cut it (ha ha). Sketching, sewing, projects, patterns, etc. It is definitely an industry for artists, not fashionistas.

Not all fashion jobs require an artistic side. While I can put an outfit together and know the colors of the rainbow, I can't sketch or sew to save my life.
My degree is in Business/Economics and I buy fabric for a large company. I meet with vendors, work out the cost benefits of purchasing textiles for a collection, and collaborate with the design team to produce garments that are fashionable and will make us the best profit.
I highly recommend a good textile university in the US if you plan to pursue this business and don't have family to fall back on while trying to make it as a designer or don't have an artistic side.
I wanted to get into fashion, I love drawing and putting together outfits and stuff. And now I'm working on criminal justice, political science and English lol. I still wanna get into fashion but it's my dream that will never be.
