I use a woman's Venus razor which is VERY expensive. After years of buying the cheapest disposables, I am convinced the expensive ones are worth it. I just paid $12.00+ on sale for 4 blades, but each one will stay sharp for months.

Regular razor blades are $1.80 for 10-pack at Walmart. I don't use them, but for those who complain about pricing, there are options. You don't have to use safety razors.

It's like baby diapers, people have to buy them so they can charge what they like a make a big fat profit. The actual cost to make them is next to nothing.

I buy the disposables at Costco, $19.95 for 50 and usually get 3-4 shaves out of each one, so that's about 6 months, and I can stretch it further by skipping the weekends if we're not going out and my wife doesn't grumble.

Gillette is one of the worst "pay for marketing" brands in the world. You really want to pay Tiger Woods when you want to shave? Thierry Henry? Does it make sense for you to make Roger Federer's bank account grow when you feel stubble on your face? If so, then Gillette is the brand for you.

My approach to brands like this is to avoid them if possible. I would rather pay for product development and manufacturing than a flashy superbowl ad or a well-known pitchman. Besides, anytime the product "refills" are the expensive part, you're being taken. Drug dealers are known for their "first one is free" trickery. . .and Procter & Gamble is one of the most successful drug dealers in history.

Just curious why men and women need different kinds. I buy the womens disposables in the multi-pack at the store for my SO and use one of those.

Same economic mechanics for ipods. They're no better than wal mart MP3 players (in fact they're a lot worse - no wma, not easily plug and play, forced to use itunes) but people spend the extra bucks for the "cool factor"

I don't understand why anybody even uses razor blades. Electric shavers are so good (now) and so convenient and so cheap (less than $60 for a very good Norelco).

It's not regular razor blades that are expensive... it's the fancy safety razor blades. I'll agree that the fancy razors shave better (less strokes), but at a price of several dollars vs 18 cents of a regular blade.

Well, I also shave my head......try using cheapos and it is just horrible.

But I cannot figure out why there is such a HUGE difference between the better quality razors and the cheapos.........aren't they all made in like a couple of different plants in China. Is it the metal or the sharpening process....such a huge difference.

I really wish Walmart some other real cheap store would start offering disposable razors in large quantities (30-50 pack) at a discount price. Wow, even at walmart the 12 packs are just too much.
