I recently started using Retin.A, I think it is .05 strength, my dermo said it would not cause sun damage as long as I wore sunscreen.......

WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!...

I wear SPF 100 broad band and only in the sun 15 minutes a day. Well, I did not get a sunburn, BUT I got tons of spots on my cheeks and nose that I did not have before

My dermo is an indian lady, so either her darker skin isnt effected OR she cant see the damage because she doesnt get spots to show her whats really going on.

I was wondering if anyone else has had a bad experience with Retin-A and also wanted to warn other users that unless you are not going in the sun or sitting near a window at all, it is doing more damage. Steer clear!

Retin-A Top : Uses, Side Effects, Interactions, Pictures, Warnings & Dosing - WebMD

"This medication may make you more sensitive to the sun. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, tanning booths, and sunlamps. Weather extremes such as wind or cold may also be irritating to the skin."

Trust the makers over the doctor. That burned me even without sun.LOL! I don't care for it at all. Its very harsh on my skin. My mother can use it without issue.

I was more sensitive to it when I first started using it ..... but you do have to be careful not to get too much sun while using it. FWIW, I either carry a parasol or am wearing a widebrimmed hat.

It says right on the "warnings" that it can cause extreme sensitivity to sunlight.....when you use that product you should NOT expose yourself to sunlight!

Wow, your dermatologist should have told you to only wear it at night! You might want to consider finding a new one. I have used it for years and I apply it before bed. My dermatologist also said to make sure you wash it off your face in the a.m. before going outside. If you have brown spots now, you will probably need to buy something similar to Obagi Clear to bleach out the spots. Or, ask your derm. to provide a product for free since she failed to warn you about not applying Retin A during the day!!

You definitely need to find a better dermatologist.

I currently only use otc brand at night but in the past did have a script. I never have had any issue but I do wear sunscreen under a light cover up during the day. Can you find another derm to see?
