I think they look uncomfortable, and I always think they look one size too small. I have a pair that I wear with tunics and I think they look good, but they don’t feel comfortable.

I'm an older woman (HAHAHAHA) who has no choice but to populate her closet with skinny jeans/pants since that's the style that predominates. I prefer straight leg/bootcut and jeans that reach beyond the ankle.
They only look stupid on guys and older women (38+ years old). I really think they look ridiculous on the older women
38 is older? Hahahahaha!
I’m 39 and still wearing my skinnnies. I have seen women in their 60s wear them well too.
I think they can work for everyone with small caveats:
make sure they fit you in the size you are now (if you get muffin top it is tge wrong size or cut)
choose the proper rise for your figure (see pount one)
choose your top wisely to suit your figure (you may need a longer top, you may need a blazer or maybe tucking suits your shape)
make sure you get the right length for you and your shoes
I find that skinnies and jeggings have a higher likelihood of fitting me properly so I only get those.
I haven’t seen many men that can pull them off. I don’t like them on men. It only seems to work on really skinny guys who like rocker wear. Looks weird on muscular guys - they are better off in slim jeans.
Wow, most of my jeans are skinny jeans and I am 41.
There is no fat spilling out on top and I do think they look good on me.
I am a smidge younger than you, wear size 14/16, amd I wear them all the time. I just make sure to get the proper size and rise and there is no muffin top or camel toe. (I am a busty pear shape)
People tend to think I dress pretty well and apparently I am breaking all of the rules. It must be ok. Even my picky mom approves, which is a miracle - she was a skeptic.

It just depends on how they fit. Watch out you don’t wind up looking like a clothespin.
My 70 y/o sister wears them all the time, or yoga pants. She has gotten big around the waist in her later years, but her legs are still slim, so she wears a "puffy" top with the skinny pants. It's a look that works for her, so I say, go for it.
Younger sister (58) has heavy legs and bottom but a slim waist. So she can't pull off that look at all.
I don't believe in any "age rules". It only matters how you look in whatever it is and/or being comfortable in it.

I'm a (older) guy who wears slim/skinny jeans - but I can do that because I have a pretty trim build.
