I guess My skin prefers breathing and being clean. I prefer unadulterated skin.
I went through a phase recently where I was trying out makeup, learning how to apply it, etc. At first I thought I didn't like it because I just wasn't used to wearing it. But after a few months and over a hundred dollars I finally decided that makeup just wasn't my cup of tea.
Tinted moisturizer, blush, mascara, just started eyelining because my brown eyeshadow can be used with water and I'm trying that look and Burt's Bees colored lip balms. Sometimes watermelon, sometimes guava.
Depends on where I am going and what I am doing once I get there.
I will agree with Dew on this one, but will say I usually wear very little makeup.
I prefer the close-to-natural or less-is-more look, and honestly speaking I think one has to be very, very skilled to be able to wear a lot of makeup and not end up looking like a clown.
Most women I see wearing a lot of makeup look either sooo much older or somehow like a caricature... and again, to be honest, in my entire life I have only seen a handful of women who really know their stuff when it comes to wearing a lot of make up.
I don't always wear makeup, but when I do, it's consistently powder and mascara. Other stuff every once in a while, but those are the critical components if I'm doing makeup...I don't wear foundation, but matte face powder evens my skin tone/tones down any blemishes. Mascara is preferred because I have light-colored eyes and lashes, and particularly when I wear my glasses (i.e. most of the time), my eyes aren't very noticeable without accenting the lashes.

And I agree with you! The most "made up" I get is a bronzing mineral powder, light blush, natural colored eye shadow and lipstick. For me the more "special" the occasion the darker the lipstick.
I'll admit to being very fussy about my hair. I've taken care of my skin so I worry more about my hair than my makeup.
Answering for my wife (well, me too)--zero. Not for work, not for going out, not for the day we got married. She just doesn't have any use for the stuff, and I agree with her. It seems as if many women feel that makeup is compulsory, and in fact it isn't at all. But then I also suspect there's a strong regional influence, and where we are (New England) we're more inclined to be frugal and disinclined to dress up. I wonder what a national map of makeup sales per person would look like. NY and CA blushing like crazy and New England and the Northwest pale as snow?
I wear translucent loose powder, eyeliner, blush and lipstick.
For special occasions, I add eyeshadow.
