Hey, I can understand that. I am a bit snobbish about clothes, however; I don't let cost be the ultimate factor. I also (because unlike you-I can't afford it) look for things that are high quality in bargain places like Plato's closet. In my financial situation (taking care of two kids and split costs with my girl who in my eyes is addicted to eating out). I just figured that there you can still dress stylish if you do it right. Like not overspend on something that you might get just a few uses out of. I learned to be smart about what I pay for. Would I pay three hundred dollars outright for a pair of True Religion? No. Those are just from my values which were instilled in me in the 70's and early 80's.

You base your opinions from where you come from just as many of us do. Just because I don't like walmart and the many other places that I have mentioned do I look down on those who shop there? No. I understand that everyone doesn't have a choice and for some that is all they got. Doesn't make them any less than you or I. And I wouldn't doubt that most likely their clothes are more comfortable.

Jules, I did not buy it. But there are people who buy it. Neiman Marcus near to where I live is always packed. People walking out buying things. One guy took out a white shirt that was billed over 300. White shirt. They sell white shirts in gap for 25. Both manufacture in India (land of cotton). But why here and not gap?

He has his reasons. But is he stupid? No, I disagree strongly.

I gauge stupidity based on how it affects others - like stealing money, bearing false witness, sleeping with another man's woman, but personal spending and person choice? Far from stupid.

I know you are right. I'm sure you've heard the saying that a fool and his money are soon parted. We just disagree about whether the man was a fool.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I was thinking that foolishness comes in all sorts. But hey if that guy felt the need to spend 300 dollars on a plain white t-shirt, I would think most people including me would call him stupid. If that's what it takes for him to temporarily feel better about himself-go for it. Hopefully someday he will realize how foolish that was. He must be one of those rich joneses who get their self worth through rediculously priced high end clothes. In the end he will realize that you can't buy happiness.

Hey, don't get me wrong. When I was younger, I used to love to buy fancy clothes, designer jeans, the newest coolest electronic gadget, etc.

Strangely, now that I could pretty much buy whatever I want whenever I want, I realize all that stuff is just pointless. But I think everyone goes through a phase like that. Some people's just lasts longer than others.

My mom said it best when she told my pudgy dad (when he was buying expensive suits) that the best fashion accessory is a smoking hot body. If you have a smoking hot bod, no one cares what you are wearing.

I love a dark green shirt, though. YUM!
Antlered Chamataka enters his boss' office.

"Here's the gantt chart"

"Looks good. And hey, guess what, my suit costs 5000"

No, it does not happen that way

You guys never socialize? Really? You simply walk out after work??

All my jobs, bosses have been fond of me coz I had saved their bums more than once. My current boss leaves me chocolates and hallmark cards at my desk.

It's not weird to have a more than professional relationship with your boss and work is not the only subject discussed.

Yes, we socialize at work. I don't, however, discuss the dollar value of items I have purchased unless they very specifically ask.

Given that I buy expensive cars for the pure joy of the driving experience, I can understand why people might spend their cash on other things like clothes.
However, when I spend more money than necessary for a car, it is because this car does or has something (besides a stupid brand name) that another less expensive car does not.
I find that rarely to be the case with clothing.

Yes, there is a price point at which the clothing is usually poorly made and a bad long-term investment (whereas something better tailored really does have better quality and longevity and even style). But that price point is not $300 or even $85 for a t shirt.

Nobody has to ask. You're just projecting, stan

It was a discussion on married life. How his wife manages his money, being a stay at home mom. And how they both go shopping and he begs his wife to let him buy that suit, though it's 5000 bucks and the like. That she put a curfew on his spending for a few months after he bought it.

Sheer populist poppycock, superman.

Allegations of stupidity, insecurity, self worth talk and eventually, as expected, money can't buy happiness gibber.

When it just comes down to the fact that these people have more money and can do things which many others cannot do becoz they cannot do it. That borders on a sense of jealousy.

I'll end this by saying that I still like the art form on that starbucks tee. I love my starbucks coffee and will die without it. I'll take anything in starbucks. I even got a beautiful double walled glass mug for about 50 bucks once, becoz I love starbucks. It's a passion.

People buy van gogh and picasso for 100,000 dollars and more. Stupid? Insecure? Rembrandt can't buy happiness??

That's just laughable I'm an art geek. What better way for starbucks to make a tee shirt which looks like what they stand for - making good coffee. It's a refresher from their usual logo tees with the siren.

Populists, socialists and the like make me
