This poll is for those who either have both stores in their area, or have shopped in both at some point in time. What are the similarities and differences? Any preferences?
You can't beat the Macy's in NYC!!! Okay, now that I live in Charlotte, Macy's here sucks! I don't know what to call it. I could browse their entire shoe section in 10 minutes--come on! Dilliards for that reason is better in my opinion--way more options and better stuff being sold for us ladies'.

Yes, when I said Macy's, I meant the one in NYC. Charlotte's not too bad, but the Dillard's in Charlotte is pretty awesome. Southpark mall is just terrific, there's no other mall shoved wonderfully deep inside the best and poshest place of town
Yesterday I spent about three hours in Macy's and Lord and Taylor For just two ties and a couple of V neck sweaters, all of which are exquisite.

While both stores are similar, I prefer Dillard's. Dillard's product selection just fits my tastes better. I also enjoy browsing their stores more - I think the lighting is different, I'm not sure exactly what it is.
Macy's varies by market, I believe. While in the Kansas City market, I prefer Dillard's, in NYC or somewhere else Macy's has better stores, my preference might be different.
The differences that I can see, at least in the Kansas City market, are that Dillard's is more classic, preppy, traditional and dressy, whereas Macy's is a bit younger, trendier, and even hip-hop. Macy's seems to have a wider variety of prices as well, appealing to a broader market. A +1 for Macy's is that they have Lacoste.
I had a Macy's gift card that took me literally a year to spend. I couldn't find anything worth wasting a gift card on until I finally gave up and bought a wallet.
Now at Dillards, I have a hard time not going overboard. I see more items of interest to me than any other store I can think of.
