Alden is considered to be very well made. If you can't swing the price tag (if you didn't follow the link, it's north of $600) the true standard is the Allen-Edmonds Park Avenue.
That's a nice line of shoes. I hadn't seen them before. But, the comparable shoe, a cordovan oxford, the Leeds, is $550, so it's really about the same.
BTW, the cordovan oxford blucher is the quintessential dress shoe. Every man should have a pair. The Alden linked above seems to connect to the cap toe, which is ok but not my preference. There is something wrong with the link. Mouse around and find the plain toe blucher. I have had three pairs lasting over 30 years with rebuilding every three or four years.

He buys most of his clothes from Charles Tyrwhitt a Gentleman's Outfitter and Shirt Maker from London, in the sales. The quality is always excellent ( his shoes seem to last forever ,the onyl brand he does not manage to destroy....) and we both like the style . He hates shopping so now online makes it even easier.

I just bought a pair of the Stacy Adams Brockton Original Dayton wing-tips in brown. They are the best dress shoes I've ever owned - HUGE bang for the buck at $150, IMO.
Really like that. It seems a good combination of classic and modern.

Yep, according to the advertising this line of shoes (Brockton Originals) are based off of the first couple of shoes that Stacy Adams produced.
Real leather soles means they can be rebuilt/resoled in a few years, as well, instead of replaced. I got mine with a 15% off online coupon so they were actually less than $150.
For knocking about on weekends, I also just bought a pair of Wolverine 1000 mile plain toe boots. They are fantastic! A much nicer alternative to wearing sneakers all the time, and my wife likes 'em.

I got rid of most of my shoes at the end of summer and decided to go in another direction with my dress shoes. I'm getting into traditional or historic styles. I did keep a pair of brown lace up ankle boots from Cole Hann. I added a pair of black Victorian era style ankle boots similar to the Gentleman's Congress Shoe, and a pair of black Edwardian lace ups called the "Madison" by Stacy Adams.

Absolutely true, a lot of Stacy Adams' contemporary stuff is absolutely zoot suit material. That's why I didn't buy anything from their contemporary collection. I *did* consider getting the "spectator" version of their BO Daytons, but I decided that would limit the amount I'd wear them. The brown/tan version of the Daytons look fantastic, though, IMO.
My favorites are Allen Edmonds, Church's, To Boot New York, Bruno Magli, and Alden. I like Italian shoes for their soft leathers and zero break in period, but they aren't as long lasting for daily wear as the American or British brands.
If you really want to get crazy slip your feet into some Edward Green's or John Lobb starting at around $1k and up.
