Assuming nearly everyone wears low-top athletic shoes and socks when they work out, why are there zippers at the ankles of most nylon sweatpants nowadays?

1. You can't assume everyone wears low-tops.
2. Even lows can get tangled up in your sweat pants.

Warm up pants. You wear them over shorts so when you get indoors you can take your pants off quickly over your shoes. I played basketball in high school and college and we always used the ones with the zippers.

Ventilation. Also makes a fashion statement if you leave them unzipped, like adidas flares. Hot.

K-mart sells Nylon sweat pants and they do not have zippers. I just bought my husband 2 pairs this Christmas.
