More and more men are wearing shorts above knee lenght. It sometimes funny cos I mistook a guy wearing it as gay. Cos it used to be a gay-man's fashion trend with their tank top and slip on shoe.

Sometimes, we're still very English influenced. 'Blokes' sounds more Aussie but it's English too of course. As is 'mate', 'crickey', 'bloody', 'strewth' and most of 'our' slang.
If anything, the super long and very baggy shorts that some dudes have been wearing the past few years have started to look like what I used to see French women wearing all the time in summer; culottes. Hilarious!

I've heard this observation too. Goes to shows how fashion trends change with the time. In the 1700s men wore stockings, makeup, high heeled shoes, frills and ostentatious wigs with long pony-tails. George Washington sported such a style himself.
As a shorter guy who likes wearing shorts year round in Washington, DC I prefer skinny fit mid thigh shorts or shorter. I'm not talking booty shorts short, but short enough to show off my little legs give me a nice tan.
I'm glad no hairy guys walk down the street in short athletic shorts like in the 70s these days. That was a scary sight. As long as the hemline stays below the mid-thigh, I'm happy with shorts on guys.
Well, one other detail is a no-no to me: wearing ultra-trendy pointy-toed shoes with shorts. Doesn't look good on men.

I thought women like to see hairy legs on men?
