The positive impact of my education, personality and talents far outweigh (ha ha) any negative impact my skin color may have - in fact, I don't believe my color has had any positive or negative effect on my life whatsoever.

Even if color for some reason did have an adverse effect, do you prefer damaging your skin - because that is what chemical skin lightening does - to accepting yourself the way you are?
What is your height? How are you ugly? Some say it does not do damage.

Jerseygal4u has a point. There are jobs where you will be denied based on your weight.
Sometimes you just have to fight past that discrimination. Your personality and abilities can transcend that. Show that you're the best qualified for the job and the discrimination goes right out the window. I talked my way into working as a personal trainer at two gyms. A 300-plus-pound personal trainer.

Like I said earlier in my post that I was much lighter in my early teenage years until I played outside in the sun a lot.
That's what happens when the melanin in your skin reacts to sunlight.

Six feet tall, former defensive lineman, wrestler and rugby prop. How am I ugly? Well, most females seem to think I am.

You can't win that. They won't tell you why they did not hire you.

Personally, I wouldn't risk unevenness to become "lighter." I do deal with my dark spots, but this is strictly to even out my tone. Trying to go down on the shade chart to get closer to the "paper bag" no thanks, I'll stick with my natural chocolate hue.

For an NFL team? They told you you are ugly? What exactly is ugly about you? Do you want to be 300lbs? Got a six pack?

College. Division I. One training camp (1987, strike season). Well, you sort of get an impression after a while how the ladies see you. What is ugly about me? Dunno, but it ain't my skin color. And no, I don't have a six pack.

Are they calling your face ugly or the weight? What do they say?

I don't ask them. I figure it's some combination of the two.
