I don't mind receiving compliments but sometimes men expect something in return for them or act as if you are now obligated to speak to with them (or that you are giving them an invitation) just because they gave the compliment.
I never get tired of being complimented. I do however, get tired of people who feel that paying me a compliment means that I actually have to take time out of my life to reply to them.

Yeah because it takes a lot of time out of your day to stop and simply say "thank you for the compliment".
I get annoyed not only because I don't need the validation but because it shows me how superficial people are. Like thats all you see about me, that I'm pretty? Tell me something I don't know or that I don't hear everyday.

If someone doesn't know you at all, what would you prefer them to compliment you on?

When you make this statement, do you mean online or in person? And if in person, under what circumstances?
I know if a man or woman directly approaches me and makes it a point to pay me a compliment, I'm gracious about it. If I'm at a bar/lounge/club or someone shouts a "compliment" at me, that's a different story.

You sound like spoiled snobs, "I get sooo tired of getting compliments every day, it's not easy being this beautiful", puh-lease If someone were kind enough to pay me a compliment, I'd thank them and try to say something nice in return. Then again, I'm not as gorgeous as half the people on this forum apparently are so I don't get 'harassed' for my good looks all the time.
