Good news from Israel for a change
Israel has a new law aimed at getting rid of excessively slender models who are considered bad examples for teenagers and people in general. In the future models who want to appear on billboards etc. have to provide proof that they don't suffer from any eating disorders
Also, the new law forces agencies to state whether they have used digital image manipulation in that context.
I wonder if other governments will follow suit

How exactly does one prove they don't have an eating disorder? Eating disorders are not a size or a weight, they're entirely psychological.

P.S. Just because a woman is tall and thin doesn't mean she's any less "feminine" than any other woman.

We had a thread about this topic recently ... Italy did the same, I believe. I'm not sure what the "feminine women" comment refers to.

In a similar German article it says they have to provide the report of an exam. The report may not be older than 3 months prior to the photo and is based on the BMI in line with UN guidelines for undernourishment.

Height indeed does not have much to do with it, it is more about width and other dimensions

BMI does not equate to health. Someone can have a "normal" BMI and be in horrendous health and someone can be above or below "normal" and be perfectly healthy. Most people who suffer from bulimia are of "normal" weight.

BMI is like the wikipedia of health evaluations. It's an okay jumping off point, but you better delve a little further if you want to gain any actual knowledge on the subject.

Although I have been a size 8-12 most of my whole life and support more curvacious models, I do not think that "getting rid " of certain waifish(childish-very slender) models OR making thin models prove their lack of eating disorder will EVER fly in the USA.

Freedom of artistic expression and diversity as beauty is what our country is moving towards. Very slender models are part of our fashion culture and it is up to the individual to be smart enough to recognize that.

They should ban all skinny girls from modelling altogether. Only curvy ones can walk the catwalk.

The rest should be dumped in the closest cheeseburger stall. Feed the meek and hungry. Jesus said it.

They are right, every time I am in starbucks, girl comes by and goes, "I'll have a tall non-fat latte", and it makes the crocodile's blood boil. Makes him want to slap his heavy duty tail on her ass, and make a lasting impression for fossil diggers to decipher when they dig her out 2 million years later.

When I read your post, I was going to say that providing proof that models don't have an eating disorder could be virtually impossible to detect for some, based on the model's disorder.

What the article actually says is that:
"The new law requires models to produce a medical report no older than three months at every shoot for the Israeli market, stating that they are not malnourished by World Health Organization standards."

It may seem like splitting hairs, but sometimes the devil is in the details. It makes sense now, at least to me.

I appreciate the effort, any effort, to rid the world of eating disorders and an industry that encourages an unhealthy body image. However, measuring whether or not a model is malnourished may allow some eating disorders to fly under the radar. I hope they find ways to help those girls, too.

It's a fabulous, and encouraging, first step!! I hope others follow their example.

Pardon me, but I missed the message from the fashion industry that said "Women are only beautiful when they're starving themselves." No, it does not promote an "unhealthy body image". It promotes thin young women just as bodybuilding competitions promote extremely muscular women. If an individual attempts to achieve that image by unhealthy means, that is not the fault of the industry but a problem to be addressed with the individual.
