I haven't read all of the other posts apart from the OPs... but in my experience, I've always done a lot better in jobs or in departments where I've had male bosses as far as receiving promotions, payrises, etc goes.

In my last job, my managers were female... and in four years I moved inches within my career, compared to the leaps and bounds I made whenever it was up to a male. Maybe it was just coincidence or circumstance- but in general I've never gotten along with females as well as I have with males, even though I'm definitely not a 'tom boy' by any stretch of the imagination.
