Not this again. I wear thongs all the time, generally not for 'serious walking', but to go to the shops, around in summer, to the beach.etc. I've never heard anyone consider them 'feminine' here but then in Australia everyone wears them.
Lol I generally keep my skinny, narrow, white feet in tennies and socks (I'm female) . I'm also in my mid 30's. In the past few years I've actually bought and wore some sandals and flip flops. Hubby wears sport sandals less than I do, and flip flops even less. Just what HE is comfortable with. I honestly don't care. And I'm picky with my nails and skin. Lol but, I have 2 kiddos, so, I care less. Lol

Good to hear the Aussies don't have the psychoses that Americans seem to have about what men wear.
My cousin said that flip flops and sandals are the way to go in the summer, even for guys. I know they are popular with college students but I am in my 30sThey're comfortable, they're cool...but can't help but feel slightly silly or feminine wearing them. Am I crazy or does it take time to get used to them?
Probably for an American you are right in line with this question.
I emigrated to Europe from the U.S. years ago, and in the summer men wear all sorts of sandals, although the cheesy flip-flops aren't seen much because they don't wear well on the pavement.
I mean, get real, we are not talking talking about patent leather shoes with six-inch spike heels!
I own 3 pairs of flip flops and I'm the last person to care what anybody else thinks. I take good care of my feet though and do agree that if you have nasty, unkept feet/toes, don't expose until you can invest in a serious pedicure!
There still is, maybe even moreso with the younger generation, but not taken to the extremes of the US.
I have not been anywhere near as remotely gender-conformist obsessed as the US. I have never been to Australia though, but from what I've read, it seems more European on its outlook.

Flip flops may be inappropriate for adults, except at the beach. But there's nothing wrong with men's leather sandals. What are men supposed to do, suffer through hot weather in shoes, while men enjoy the comfortable, cooling effect of sandals? Men have always worn sandals, especially European men. The current flip flop craze may be confusing the issue.
There are leatherworkers who specialize in making men's sandals, and can fit them with custom-made arch support.
