It is NOT silly. I'm dark skinned and while I don't wear sunscreen every day (because it breaks me out), I should and I will start to. I get tanned so easily even though I'm not pale. I don't even go outside often, but once summer hit this year my face became darker and the tops of my arms became super dark. Darkening of the skin is a sign of skin damage, so yes dark people need sunscreen and sunblock.

Tell that to Bob Marley.

This subject is just like asking if you drink the recommended water intake every day. Of course, we should but many of us don't. We can find the reasons we should drink that amount every day. But then we can also argue that we know people that don't drink nearly as much and have lived a perfectly healthy life. It's a merry go round.

So in other words what you are saying, is that darker skinned people shouldn't care if they get skin cancer? And if they do take care of themselves it is just silly? Wow, either ignorant on your part, or you would rather all darker skinned people no longer be alive.

I'm assuming for dark-skinned people wearing sunscreen has less to do with being lighter and more to do with preventing skin cancer and early aging.

I've heard and read that coconut oil and shea butter are natural sunscreens, in case you want to research this. I use either, but I use moisturizer with SPF on my face (especially if the moisturizer is tone-correcting). I don't care if I get darker, but the sun causes itchy bumps on parts of my skin, like a sun rash.

I am medium brown. I have been sunburned the back of my neck and my back before. So, yes, dark skin can burn. And also at risk for skin cancer. My understanding is that the atmosphere is not as protected as it used to be, so we are more subject to harmful sun rays.

Yes, and a hat. Dark skinned people can get skin cancer.

The plain smart simple fact is that if you are out in the sun a lot, YES, YES, you should wear sunscreen. Now, if you are out occasionally here and there, then you need to make your own judgement but it can only help not hurt right?

Yes, not only to prevent cancer but the sun ages your skin. If you notice some Caucasians who continually tan the skin starts to look aged and like leather. Dark skin has some protection against this but you still need to wear sunscreen. But honestly I didn't start wearing sunscreen until I was like 22. My husband is mixed and has a very light skin tone and burns very easily like his skin turns bright red and peels off plus it's painful meanwhile I can sit in the sun with no sunscreen and I just get darker but no burn.

I use Neutrogena which does leave a white color on me when I go above 50 spf but I mix it with brown concealer or foundation. Maybe use a low spf sunscreen or find one that is tinted.
